Abstract
Purpose: The purpose of this study is to evaluate women¡¯s knowledge and screening behaviors for breast cancer in Chun-cheon by survey.

Materials and Methods: This study included 66 inhabitant women, who participated voluntarily in free screening program for early detection of breast cancer. The questionnaire was composed of age of participant, questions for knowledge of breast cancer, attitude and behaviors related to breast cancer screening. The ages of participants ranged from 22 to 71 years (mean age: 48.0 years). We compared this study with previous studies in Hwasun-gun, Seoul and Pusan.

Results: Fifty six percent of participants had been performed breast self examination and fifty six percent of participants had been performed screening mammography. The most frequent cause of related breast cancer screening was regular check-ups (40.9%) and the most frequent barrier was inconvenience of take time (27.6%). In knowledge of breast cancer, mean value of correct answer was 1.92 and was statistically significant higher than in previous surveys of Hwasun-gun(1.66) and Seoul(1.43) but significantly lower than in Pusan( 2.02) (p=0.000, p<0.05).

Conclusion: These data suggest that active public relations and education are essential for early detection of breast cancer. This study may be applied to plan and develop screening program.
